Local fabrication

Build and sustain local capacity for assisting local academic labs in the fabrication of open source scientific equipment.

As it is the case with any venture within the Sensorica OVN, Sensorica local fabrication is an open venture, i.e. anyone can join, adopt or build one or more roles, contribute and benefit. 

Sensorica local fabrication is a for-benefit open venture, i.e.you can extract various benefits from your participation, including financial.  

We provide a trusted access for local academic labs (partners) to the global distributed open source hardware (OSH) production ecosystem.  For that, we:

• Curate a list of existing OSH projects that meet the standards of academic lab equipment.

• Assist academic lab partners in identifying OSH that suits their needs. 

• Assist academic lab partners in fabricating OSH, using Sensorica's state of the art practices. 

• Transfer knowhow about the fabrication, operation and maintenance of OSH to academic lab partners.

• Offer help for maintenance and upgrade of OSH.

NOTE that we do not sell OSH devices. The local academic labs are not our clients, they are formally our partners. Even though our academic lab partners contribute financially to our operations, our relationship with them is not transactional, but a collaborative one, in which we contribute with time, knowhow, access to OSH communities and to the global OSH distributed manufacturing ecosystem, and they contribute with financial resources, use cases and feedback on the use of the OSH, which we funnel back to the community of designers. Here we should stress the fact that our relation with the local academic labs is collaborative in nature, not transactional, as we use a transparent, and open collaborative work environment within which members of these local academic labs also operate, which makes us and them de facto part of the same organization. In legal terms, this de facto organization is a non-registered association -  Code civile section V, 2267. Moreover, our shared purpose is to improve OSH and help disseminate it world wide, using approaches outside of the market.
