This project is now part of a larger initiative! The goal now is to build a multi-functional modular system to address field mapping and analysis, and production issues. The concept is: spot, measure, analyse, and act. Something like the this, or like this.
In other words, we want to provide farmers with the tools to address every single plant individually, while working on small or large fields. Laser sensing technology will help find and characterize the plant, the information will be processed in real time, with the option to make decisions and to act immediately or later.
This system, integrating a family of tools, will be designed for sustainable agriculture.
We now consider the plant counter as a first step.
Applications of the plant counter
Count and map the population of young thru adult maize plants. This laser-based sensor will be attached to equipment which is operating in the field for other reasons. Thus the data about population will be “free” to the producer so that he can investigate the cause of any problems.
