Art belongs to the world. For too long, the traditional art market has focused on a model of private ownership that often locks culture away or prices out all but the most elite collectors. ArtCoin is a project designed to transform this landscape.

It creates a "commons" for art, a new way for artworks to circulate freely through our communities, being seen and appreciated in local cafes, libraries, public halls, and homes. Our goal is to foster a vibrant, collaborative ecosystem where art is shared, artists are fairly rewarded, and the history of every creation is preserved forever.

The Core Concept: Stewardship Over Ownership

At the heart of ArtCoin is a shift from rigid ownership to active stewardship. In this model, an artwork is viewed as a living object with its own journey. Rather than being treated as a static commodity to be bought once and forgotten, art participates in a continuous lifecycle of exhibition and care. Whether a piece is on a gallery wall or in a private living room, it remains part of a shared cultural story.

The Participants: A Collaborative Community

ArtCoin brings together everyone who plays a role in the life of an artwork:

• Artists: The creators who bring new visions into the world. In the ArtCoin ecosystem, artists maintain a lifelong connection to their work, ensuring it is handled according to their wishes and that they share in its ongoing value.

• Venues: The local galleries, community centers, restaurants, and libraries that provide a stage for art. By hosting exhibitions, these spaces become vital nodes in a cultural network.

• Adopters: Individuals who fall in love with a piece and bring it into their personal spaces. "Adoption" is more than a sale; it is a commitment to the work’s continued story.

• Support Agents: The professional transporters and storers who ensure that art moves safely and is protected throughout its travels.

1. Bringing Art to Life: An artist registers their work, defining how it should be shared and cared for. This "digital twin" of the physical piece becomes the anchor for its entire history.

2. Discovery and Matching: Venues can easily find art that fits their space and mission, while artists can discover new audiences in places they might never have reached otherwise.

3. The Touring Path: Art is meant to be seen. ArtCoin enables "touring exhibitions," where pieces move seamlessly from one venue to another, creating dynamic cultural experiences across neighborhoods and cities.

4. A Currency of Trust: Every hand that touches an artwork contributes to its story. When a transporter moves a piece safely or a venue hosts a successful exhibition, that "act of care" is recorded. This builds a reputation for every participant, ensuring that artists can trust their work is in good hands.

5. Adoption and Fair Rewards: When someone chooses to host a piece permanently, ArtCoin ensures the transition is fair. The artist can receive a share of the value whenever the work moves to a new steward, creating a sustainable model for long-term creative support.

ArtCoin is built on the Nondominium protocol, a specialized infrastructure designed for sharing and governing resources without centralized ownership. Nondominium provides the underlying building blocks that make ArtCoin’s vision possible:

• Nondominium Objects (NDOs): Every artwork in ArtCoin is represented as an NDO, a permanent "digital twin" that lives on a distributed network. Unlike a traditional database entry, this anchor cannot be deleted or controlled by a single platform operator. It ensures that the artwork's identity and history remain stable throughout its entire life.

• Embedded Governance: The "rules of the journey" for an artwork are not just written in a contract; they are baked directly into the NDO. These rules define who can move the piece, how it must be insured, and what standards of care are required. This ensures that the artist’s intentions are respected automatically, regardless of where the work travels.

• Private Participation Receipts (PPRs): Nondominium introduces a unique way to track reputation called PPRs. Every time someone interacts with an artwork, whether it’s a venue hosting an exhibition or a transporter delivering a piece safely, a bilateral receipt is issued. These "acts of care" are stored privately by the participants but can be used to build a verifiable reputation. This creates a circle of trust where every contribution is recognized and rewarded.

• Agent-Centric Infrastructure: In the Nondominium model, every participant (artist, venue, or adopter) is a first-class "agent" who owns their own data. There is no central server in the middle. This ensures that the ArtCoin community is truly sovereign, resilient against censorship, and capable of evolving organically as more artists and lovers of art join the network.
